Fitbit introduces the new Charge 5

Fitbit has just presented its latest novelty in the range of wearables: we are talking about Charge 5, a smartband with important innovations both in terms of design and in terms of hardware and functions.

SPECIFICATIONS: (SENSORS + BATTERY) 3-axis accelerometer | Integrated GPS + GLONASS | Optical sensor for detecting heartbeat | Infrared sensors for SpO2 measurement | Temperature sensor | Ambient light sensor | Multi-purpose electric sensors for ECG and EDA | Vibration motor | Radio | Bluetooth for connection to the NFC device for payments via Fitbit Pay | Battery that allows up to 7 days of operation, charging time 2 hours.

Among the main innovations certainly stands out the new aerodynamic design and studied for a perfect fit, it is 10% thinner than the Charge 4. A great upgrade is also presented in the AMOLED color display which can reach a peak brightness of 450 nits , 250 more than the predecessor. The “Always-on” function is also supported, which however will reduce the battery life from 7 to about 2 days.

Following what has been done with Sense, it will also be possible to take an ECG and consult the results through the Fitbit app. All the advanced sensors that allow us to measure heart rate continuously, SpO2, EDA and skin temperature also returns.

As always, we will have sleep monitoring that we can easily define as the best on the market. Together with this, the smart alarm clock and the sleep score are back which will allow us an even more detailed analysis.

Obviously, the integrated GPS and NFC also return, which will allow us to make contactless payments via Fitbit Pay. In the sales package we will find in addition to the Charge 5 also one of the new Infinity straps (size S and L) and the USB charging cable.

A new feature for Premium users will be the “Daily Recovery”: each morning we will be assigned a score based on our levels of fatigue, heart rate variability (HRV) and sleep. This score will tell us if it will be better to train or to proceed with a healthy recovery.

Finally, the close partnership between Fitbit and Will Smith, the new ambassador of the American company, should be noted. The actor / influencer has in fact collaborated to create exclusive content that will be made available on Social, Fitbit Premium users and the YouTube Originals series called “Best shape of my life” which will be published soon.

It is already possible to pre-order Fitbit Charge 5 at a recommended price of 179.99 €, shipments are scheduled for autumn. The purchase includes 6 months of subscription to the Premium service.
