Google Lens lands on the desktop version of Google Photos with OCR text recognition (photo)

We are more and more used to using Google Lens from smartphones, also thanks to the continuous updates that the company continues to allocate to this app: only recently have we reported the new logo and the new ability to independently recognize which photographs contained text to be selected and copied. With the latest update, for the first time Lens becomes usable, even if only partially, via computer .

Opening a photo containing text, “ Copy right from image ” will appear at the top right, next to the old icon of Lens : once you click on it, the animation that we already know through the mobile version of the app will appear, which will scan the photo, returning all the text present highlighted which we can then, as we wish, copy to bring it back elsewhere without having to manually transcribe it.

The optical character recognition (OCR) system, or optical character recognition , is currently available on Google Chrome and not yet on third-party browsers, but we trust that the distribution can reach them in a short time. This is the first time that one of the functions of Google Lens has become available on devices other than smartphones or tablet and we are happy and curious to find out Google what other functions of the app will offer us.
