Google Photos will have a secret folder (finally!)

Google announced the new Photos feature along with other privacy news

At Google I / O , the annual developer conference of Google, the company announced important privacy news, including a highly anticipated feature for Google Photos, namely a Secret Folder ( Locked Folder ), which hides the images that we don't want to show to everyone.

The operation is very simple and completely similar to what we have already seen on third-party apps: it is a protected folder, which can be enabled from the Utilities section and which can only be opened by running the '' access via biometric authentication (fingerprint or face unlock) or via PIN / Pattern.

It is the ideal solution to hide images that we do not want to show in the middle of all others, such as photos of documents containing sensitive data .

In addition to this, Google has introduced other privacy-oriented innovations , or:

  • Quick delete : a new item in the menu of your Google Account that allows you to quickly delete the searches of the last 15 minutes;
  • Reminder about the places visited : looking at the Timeline of the places visited on Maps, there will be a reminder which will remind us that the places in question are saved because we have enabled the Location History, allowing us to quickly deactivate it if we want;
  • A new password manager for Chrome
  • Many new privacy features for Android 12 (see dedicated article)
