Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro: a titanium or ceramic case but little else new

Huawei has presented its new wearable, the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro in two versions, a 42mm one with a ceramic case and a 46mm one with a titanium case. Due to their resistance and lightness, both devices are focused as a complement for the most athletic.

In Hipertextual we have been able to test the 46 mm titanium version and despite the fact that it is a good product, well built, resistant and very useful in monitoring exercises, a priori it is not really worth upgrading from a previous model, such as the Huawei Watch GT3 or the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro.

Huawei's strategy with its smartwatches is overwhelming for all consumers looking for a wearable within Android, and where it seems to want to compete in all segments, from brands with more affordable devices, such as Xiaomi or Amazfit, to other more premium ones like Samsung and its Galaxy Watch. And that without taking into account the imminent? arrival of the Google watch. Be that as it may, eight smart watches and three bracelets coexist on the Huawei website right now , perhaps a bit excessive.

Nice design, but without plus

At first glance, the new Huawei watch does not undergo major changes on an aesthetic level. However, it has been built with a titanium case and a ceramic back to make it stronger and lighter, weighing approximately 50 grams in the 46mm version.

We continue to have a round clock design, something less and less understandable not only by Huawei, but also by the rest of the Android manufacturers. With smart watches used less and less to tell the time and more to receive notifications and interact, continuing to bet on round formats makes very little sense. Oppo, for example, has already jumped off that ship.

Huawei Watch GT3 Pro on the left, Huawei Watch 3 Pro on the right The 1.43-inch AMOLED screen of the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro has an HD resolution of 466 x 466. In the 42-mm model, it drops to 1.32-inches. It is protected by a sapphire crystal, with a resistance similar to a diamond, and also present on the back of the watch to better measure skin and pulse parameters.

The new Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro has a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen in the 46mm model and 1.32mm in the 42mm model.

Huawei has also reduced the thickness of its new wearable, specifically 0.5 mm compared to the Watch GT 2 Pro model.

As for customization, as in previous models you can also exchange the straps . It comes with a plastic bracelet, fluoroelastomer as they say from Huawei, the most suitable for sports, but leather and metal ones can also be purchased separately. As for spheres, nothing different with other models: there is a wide variety of free spheres and there is always the option to pay for any other that we like more.

Everyday use: very good battery and full monitoring

The way to move around the application menu of the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro is the same as the most recent models. With a menu in the form of Maya we can enlarge or reduce the size and move with the cursor using the watch crown. As in previous models, with HarmonyOS, applications are downloaded from the Huawei App Gallery.

In addition to the main menu, we have a series of shortcuts by sliding the top menu of the screen. Of course, they are not customizable and I miss some options from other models such as the flashlight or airplane mode.

The battery is the best aspect of this family of devices. I have used the Huawei Watch 3 Pro for a long time and the biggest change is the autonomy, up to 14 days compared to 3 days for the other model. In the 42 mm model, autonomy drops to 8 days. It also has fast charging so in less than an hour, it's fully charged.

Its maximum autonomy is 14 days in the 46mm model and 8 in the 42mm model. It does not have ultra power saving mode but it does have fast charging.

In my case, during the six days that I have been using it 24 hours a day, I have only consumed 40% of the battery. Although I doubt that it will reach 14 days, it will surely stay very close. Of course, it does not have an ultra energy saving mode that gets you out of trouble.

During the practice of exercise it is a very complete watch, showing you in a very precise and correct way the processes and evolutions, especially in some more complicated sports to monitor such as swimming or running in headband. In total it has a hundred training modes which also includes golf, triathlon, skiing, snowboarding, free training, elliptical and rowing, among others.

To see your progress more accurately, the Health app comes into play. Once we download the dozens of application packages, it is a very well made application, intuitive and that allows you to know very well the progress made. The only drawback is that it is within the Huawei ecosystem, so if we ever change the smartwatch, the information is lost.

The new Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro comes with NFC, although it is deactivated in some markets, such as Spain. In fact, the Wallet option in the Health app is not available. For this reason, we will continue to be unable to make mobile payments, a real shame and even more so considering that the vast majority of smartwatches do allow it.

Conclusion

I have been testing the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro for several days and honestly, I would not know whether to recommend it to someone. If I rule out people who are users of the Apple Watch, those who just want a smartwatch, basic but compliant and for a price of around 100 euros, and people who already have a decent watch (any current Huawei model , without going any further), I don't have a very large group left to whom I can say: “buy the new Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro“.

However, this should not tarnish the good work that Huawei is doing with its wearables, both in watches and in bracelets, with quite beautiful designs, good autonomy and collecting sports progress very well. . If you add to this the continuous offers and discounts that Huawei applies, they are very interesting options. But when it comes to the new Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro, it's more of the same, only with a ceramic or titanium case and a price of 369 euros.
