YouTube is blocking state-funded Russian media around the world

Russia continues to be affected by Western sanctions . Finally, Youtube announced the blocking of channels financed by the Russian government . The company also claimed to have removed content about the invasion of Ukraine that denies, minimizes or trivializes “well-documented violent events” . At the moment, however, it would seem that such channels are still accessible (according to a tweet from Youtube Insider it will be essential to wait a while before the complete removal).

Before applying this decision, among other things, Google had already made sure to remove the possibility of monetizing these videos. The Russian government, in response, has blocked or restricted access to several sites, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (the latter as of March 14).

Last week Google also announced the stop to the Russian state media from publishing ads on their videos.
